The Boreal Chorus Frog (Pseudacris maculata) is a cryptically colored, little (1.9-4 cm [0.7-1.6 in]) frog that is distributed across Canada and the western and north-central US. It can be found in or near calm bodies of water in wetlands or meadows. It uses both permanent and ephemeral water, and it is not uncommon for them to lay eggs in ponds that will dry up before the tadpoles have metamorphosed. The Boreal Chorus Frog will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a moderately high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 Scenario and Moderately Vulnerable under the RCP 8.5 Scenario. The Boreal Chorus Frog’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement, life history, and abiotic niche, which influence its ability to shift in space, persist in place, and respond to climate change impacts. It is also impacted by barriers, land-use changes, and diseases that could increase the effects of climate change.
