The Western Kingbird (Tyrannus verticalis) is a fairly large flycatcher with a pale gray head, yellow belly, black tail with white outer edges, and brownish wings. It dives and kites after insects from perches in open habitat below about 2,135 m (7,000 feet). It breeds in the western US and migrates through northern Mexico to winter in southern Mexico and Central America. The Western Kingbird, also known as the Arkansas Kingbird, will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Western Kingbird’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement and life history, which influence its ability to shift in space and persist in place.
