The Plains Leopard Frog (Lithobates blairi) is a relatively large (11 cm [4 in]) frog that is widespread across the Great Plains from Kentucky west to Arizona and South Dakota south to Texas. It is found in aquatic habitat types in prairies and desert grasslands. Individuals have been observed to move up to 8 km (5 mi) between ponds from one year to the next. The Plains Leopard Frog will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Plains Leopard Frog’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement and abiotic niche, which influence its ability to shift in space and respond to climate change impacts. It also has documented or modeled responses to climate change that impact its vulnerability score.
