The American Mink (Neogale vison) is a medium-sized (0.6 m [2 ft]) weasel that is found throughout Canada and the US, except Arizona. It may be extirpated from New Mexico; if it does persist, it is likely to be restricted to the northern portion of the State. Mink inhabit forested areas by permanent or semi-permanent water and wetlands. It has a general carnivorous diet, eating small mammals, fish, crustaceans, amphibians, eggs, and occasionally birds. The American Mink will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 Scenario and Moderately Vulnerable under the RCP 8.5 Scenario. The American Mink’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related evolutionary potential and abiotic niche, which influence its ability to respond to climate change impacts.
