The Harris's Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus harrisi) is a boldy colored hawk (46-59 cm [18-23 in] long; 103-119 cm [41-47 in] wingspan) that is mostly dark brown with some reddish on its wings and white under its tail. It perches on telephone poles or other feature in desert lowlands and sometimes urban and suburban areas. It ranges from the southwestern US through parts of Mexico and down into Central and South America. The Harris’s Hawk will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Harris’s Hawk’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement and demography, which influence its ability to shift in space and persist in place.
