The Spotted Bat (Euderma maculatum) is a medium-sized (13 cm [5 in]), large-eared bat that is found across western North America, from British Columbia, Canada to central Mexico. It is found in a variety of habitats, foraging in open areas and roosting in cliffs. Individuals have been observed to follow predictable foraging patterns such that they appear at the same locations around the same time night after night. The Spotted Bat will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Spotted Bat’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement and abiotic niche, which influence its ability to shift in space and respond to climate change impacts.
