The Yellow-tailed Hornet Fly (Spilomyia kahli) is a medium-sized; yellow, red, and black; wasp-mimic hoverfly known from montane regions of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and northern Mexico. In New Mexico, it occurs in the Magdalena and Manzano Mountains in Socorro and Torrance Counties. The larvae are decomposers of wood, and the adults fly, mate, and visit flowers in August and September.
