The Leafcutter Bee (Megachile melanderi) was historically found in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. However, it has not been recorded recently across much of its range. The most recent record is from 2010 in Doña Ana County, New Mexico. It has been recorded from a gypsum playa in the White Sands National Park, though it is unknown if it is a gypsum-habitat specialist. This species nests in cavities, and adults have been recorded foraging on several plants in different families
