The Sagebrush Sparrow (Artemisiospiza nevadensis) is a small (12-15 cm [5-6 in]) sparrow that occurs as a summer and winter resident in different portions of New Mexico. It forms pairs before arriving in the sagebrush habitat where it breeds. It winters in desert scrub and grassland habitats. The Sagebrush Sparrow will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a moderately high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Sagebrush Sparrow’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement, life history, and ecological role, which influence its ability to shift in space, persist in place, and respond to climate change impacts.
