The Ruidoso Snaggletooth Snail (Gastrocopta ruidosensis) is a small (shell length up to 4.5 mm [0.2 in]) terrestrial snail that only occurs on the eastern slopes of the Sacramento and Sangre de Cristo Mountains in eastern New Mexico. Snaggletooth refers to the hard shell projections in the aperture of its shell that protect it from predators. It is commonly found in bare soil, under stones, and in thin layers of vegetative litter on mid-elevation cliffs and in limestone grasslands. Most specimens have been collected from the Peñasco and Tularosa Canyons.
