The Peppered Chub (Macrhybopsis tetranema) is a small (4.5-6.5 cm [2-3 in]) minnow that is currently found in Kansas and in the Canadian River between the Meredith and Ute Reservoirs of Texas and New Mexico, respectively. It is found in the riffles of large, permanently flowing, sandy streams. The high flow that follows summer storms is important for successful spawning. The Peppered Chub will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a low adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Extremely Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Peppered Chub’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to distribution, life history, evolutionary potential, and abiotic niche, which influence its ability to shift in space, persist in place, and respond to climate change impacts.
