The Melittid Bee (Hesperapis trochanterata) is a rare, ground-nesting bee in the family Melittidae. It is found in arid habitats of southern Arizona and New Mexico. It appears to be specialized to feed on the tubular flowers of fiddleleaf (Nama spp.) because it has abundant, long hairs on its mouthparts that likely act as a comb to pull pollen from the tubular flowers.
