The Flammulated Owl (Psiloscops flammeolus) is a small (15-17 cm [6-7 in]), secretive owl that ranges from Guatemala to British Columbia and has highly disjunct populations. It breeds in open pine (Pinus spp.) forests in mountainous areas. Its diet mainly consists of insects, though it does eat small vertebrates as well. The Flammulated Owl will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Flammulated Owl’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement and life history, which influence its ability to shift in space and persist in place.
