The Black-throated Sparrow (Amphispiza bilineata) is a medium-sized sparrow (12-14 cm [5-5.5 in] long; 11-15 g [0.4-0.5 oz]) with striking white stripes over and beneath the eye, a large triangular throat patch, grayish brown upperparts, and paler underparts. It forages for seeds and insects on the ground in semiopen areas with shrubs and small trees. It is found in parts of the western and southwestern US and south into Mexico. The Black-throated Sparrow will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a moderately low adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Black-throated Sparrow’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by movement factors, which influence its ability to shift in space.
