The Black-throated Gray Warbler (Setophaga nigrescens) is a small (11-13 cm [4-5 in]) songbird that can occur west of the Rocky Mountains. It inhabits pine (Pinus spp.), pine-oak (Quercus spp.), and piñon (Pinus spp.)-juniper (Juniperus spp.) woodlands and forests. Despite being easily observed while foraging, little is known about this species. The Black-throated Gray Warbler will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a high adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Less Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Black-throated Gray Warbler’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to movement and life history, which influence its ability to shift in space and persist in place. It also has documented or modeled responses to climate change that impact its vulnerability score.
