The Barking Frog (Craugastor augusti latrans) is a medium-sized (up to 8 cm [3 in]) subspecies of barking frog that occurs in Texas and New Mexico. It is found in creosote (Larrea tridentata) and mesquite shrublands, oak (Quercus spp.) woodlands, and desert-scrub habitats. The male’s call resembles the bark of a small dog. The Barking Frog will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a moderately low adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Moderately Vulnerable under the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 Scenario and Extremely Vulnerable under the RCP 8.5 Scenario. The Barking Frog’s climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to distribution, movement, and abiotic niche, which influence its ability to shift in space and respond to climate change impacts.
