The Greenthroat Darter (Etheostoma lepidum) is a small (6 cm [2 in]) fish that can be found in tributaries of the Colorado, Guadalupe, and Nueces Rivers in Texas and the Pecos River system in southeastern New Mexico. It has been extirpated from the Pecos River below Carlsbad and from the Black River. It inhabits vegetated riffles in swift-flowing streams and sinkholes or shore areas that experience wave action. The Greenthroat Darter will experience a high degree of climate exposure and has a moderately low adaptive capacity. Overall, it has a Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranking of Extremely Vulnerable under both Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 Scenarios. The Greenthroat Darter climate change vulnerability is impacted by factors related to distribution and abiotic niche, which influence its ability to shift in space and respond to climate change impacts.
