The Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus) is a medium-sized (21-28 cm [8-11 in]) owl that occurs throughout Canada and down into the Cascade and Rocky Mountains. Northern New Mexico represents the southern extent of its range. It breeds in dense coniferous forests.
