The Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus) is a medium-sized (21-28 cm [8-11 in]) owl that occurs throughout Canada and down into the Cascade and Rocky Mountains. Northern New Mexico represents the southern extent of its range. It breeds in dense coniferous forests. The Boreal Owl is sensitive to logging because it relies on mature and dead trees for cavity nesting.
